More InformationThis is the first of a series of ten drawings HMF 78(38)-78(47) of the hands of crystallographer and Nobel prizewinner, Professor Dorothy Hodgkin. Despite severe arthritis, Hodgkin carried out intricate experiments in X-ray crystallography, for which she was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1964. The drawings were made in response to a request from Rex Richards on behalf of the Royal Society, which had originally proposed a portrait of the distinguished chemist. Moore also made five lithographs, CGM 484-488, based on the drawings.
