Shelter Drawings and Sketchbooks
Moore made two sketchbooks of detailed drawings of people sheltering in the London Underground during the Blitz of 1940-41. He did not draw directly in the sketchbooks while in the Underground but made notes and rapid sketches using these (and members of his family as models) as the basis for the sketchbook studies. From these studies he produced many larger, more finished drawings.
