The composer and founder of the Spoleto Festival of Two Worlds, Giancarlo Menotti, visited Moore in December 1981 and asked him to design a poster for the 1982 festival. Moore made seven drawings HMF 81(407)-81(413), mistakenly incorporating the date 1981 in the design. Two of the drawings HMF 81(410) and 81(411) were taken by Menotti before they had been photographed. One of these – it is not known which – was used for the poster, the date clearly having been altered. The other drawing has not been traced.
